SKH-WC conducted a total laparoscopic hysterectomy for a large uterine fibroids, which means removing the uterus that contains two big fibroids masses through small ports in the abdomen (keyhole surgery). The usual procedure in these cases is abdominal operation which usually requires longer recovery time and is associated with more blood loss than the laparoscopic surgery

It was conducted for the first time at SKMCA and it requires special expertise in laparoscopic suturing techniques to close the lower end. Our consultant surgeon Dr Mats Jernetz and Dr Aseel Shawqi did the job successfully and the patient was discharged after two days. No blood transfusion was needed, nor analgesics apart from paracetamol. She was able to mobilize fast after the surgery.
