As an inpatient, you will be spending a night or more with us at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Ajman, and can rest assured that we will do everything possible to make your stay a pleasant one.
We will let you know what preparations you need to make and what to expect once you are at the hospital. You may need to avoid food and drink for several hours prior to your visit if you are having a general anesthetic. If you become ill before you are due to come in, please do let us know as it may affect your planned treatment.
If you are being admitted for surgery you must follow the instructions given as to have to prepare for the surgery and what time to come for admission. Most patients will be admitted on the day of surgery and any delay due to late arriving will result in cancellation and delay for the procedure.
While you are our guest we will work to ensure you have a safe, comfortable environment and the very best healthcare possible. Here are some important things to know when you arrive:
An identification band must be worn at all times – this will be placed on your wrist upon admission. Anyone providing care to you from the hospital should also have an ID badge.
Please keep your valuables at home –if you bring them it will be at your own risk. Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Ajman accepts no responsibility for the loss of any valuables. Hand-sanitizing dispensers – are available for visitors’ use, to help prevent the spread of infection.
Nurses will check on you – on a regular basis 24/7. Should you need assistance – a call bell is located at your beside table and in your bathroom to alert the nurses.
Being active may help to speed your recovery – follow your physician’s guidelines regarding activities such as walking, and ensure that you seek your nurse’s assistance when getting out of bed to avoid accidents.
Medication – will be prescribed and reviewed by your doctor. Please tell your doctor or nurse about any medication you are currently taking. While in hospital, we ask that you not take any other medication, and if you have any with you, please send it home. When being discharged, ensure that you are clear on the medicines you need to take at home.
Fires or other emergencies – staff are fully trained. Should the fire alarm sound, or in the event of other emergencies, please follow the directions of our staff. The alarm systems are tested regularly so please do not be worried if this happens.
Questions from you and your family – are important to us and we will do our best to answer them. Direct any questions to your nurse, physician, or other staff.
Your opinion matters – if you have any concerns, please notify a member of the nursing staff. If your concerns persist, and cannot be resolved by a nurse, please ask to speak to the Senior Charge Nurse (office hours) or the Nursing Supervisors, who will be able to resolve the issue or will inform Patient Relation Officers or Senior Nursing Management if necessary. Upholding and valuing the rights of our patients is an important aspect of the service we provide. Please ask your nurse for further information.

Please note:
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hospital, however, there are designated areas within the grounds where smoking is permitted. As an inpatient you are discouraged from smoking and must inform a member of staff if you are going to leave the ward.
