Congratulations to the SKMCA NICU unit for coming in 12th in the 2022 Babies with Books read-a-thon. Babies with Books is a youth-led organization bringing early literacy into healthcare beginning in the neonatal intensive care unit. Back in September and for 11 days, the SKMCA NICU unit, parents, and volunteer staff competed for the 1st time with over 208 NICUs worldwide to increase the awareness of reading to our infants in the NICU.
Since its inception in July 2022, SKMCA NICU reading Club continues to encourage reading to babies for its many benefits for NICU babies and families such as supporting infant brain development, promoting family bonding, and reducing stress. Furthermore, volunteers from SKMCA staff members continue to support parents by donating kids’ books and volunteering to read to babies in the Unit.
