At the department of gastroenterology, assessment, evaluation, management and treatment of different gastroenterological conditions are investigated, evaluated, diagnosed and treated both in-wards as well as out-patient health care at our OPD and endoscopy unit.

Examples of gastroenterological conditions are gastric- and bowel disorders such as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), gastrointestinal bleedings, gastric/duodenal ulcer, gastro- esophageal reflux, esophagitis and functional bowel disorders such as IBS as well as acute and chronic liver diseases including some gall-duct/bladder disorders.

At the department endoscopic unit examinations such as diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography) are made both elective as well as in emergency cases. The endoscopy unit is under an extensive progressive development and will be gradually starting up during 2018 to a multifunctional specialist unit. That is, under the following year a completely new endoscopy unit with a high capacity of performing different high class endoscopic procedures will be developed.
